Established in 2022, the Clinical Sample Resource Bank of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University (ZMU) has obtained the administrative license for the preservation of human genetic resources in China and it is the largest sample bank in Guizhou Province since the promulgation of the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Management of Human Genetic Resources".
Covering an area of 906 square meters, the Bank is a clinical sample resource bank with a professional technical team, perfect facilities and equipment, and standard management procedures. There are 10 staff members, including 3 PhDs, 1 master and 6 bachelors, who have obtained personnel qualifications such as the Certificate of Competence for Advanced Training in Sample Repository Construction Management and Practice, the Certificate of Biosafety Management, and the Certificate of Qualification for Operation and Safety Management of Special Equipment. The repository is set up with 7 functional areas, including sample receiving area, pre-processing area, ultra-low temperature refrigerator area, liquid nitrogen area, quality control area, comprehensive office area, and monitoring room, with a scientific and reasonable spatial layout, and is currently equipped with 34 ultra-low temperature refrigerators at -86℃(60,000 samples/unit), and 9 large-scale liquid nitrogen bio-storage containers (22,000 samples/unit), with a capacity of more than 2,160,000 samples in the initial stage, and gradually expanding to 5 million samples in the later stage. Haier Biological Sample Bank Information Management System is configured; there is one 15m3 0.8MPa liquid nitrogen tower, and the liquid nitrogen storage containers are equipped with complete vacuum pipeline transportation system; the pre-processing area is configured with automatic nucleic acid extractor, ultra-micro-nucleic acid analyzer, biosafety cabinet, fluorescence quantitative PCR instrument, high-throughput tissue milling instrument, water and ultra-pure water system, ice maker, and ultrapure water system, ice machine, centrifuge and so on. In accordance with the Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China, Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Management of Human Genetic Resources, Measures for Ethical Review of Biomedical Research Involving Human Beings and other relevant laws and regulations, the library has formulated a management system covering the management system of sample entry and exit booking and registration, processing and use records, the technical specifications of preservation, the quality control system, the personnel management and training system, and the security and confidentiality management system. These documents ensure the scientific, standardized and legal conservation of human genetic resources.
With the quality policy of "fair behavior, scientific method, standardized service and sharing", we have set up a strict organizational structure, standardized management and process operation to provide important support for clinical and basic translational medical research.
